I designed this T Shirt at a time when i was listening to Lauryn Hill an excessive amount. I became really interested in what she did for Hip-Hop and her musical style. I was listening to her MTV Unplugged session (In particular https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb7KjMTgK-Q) and felt compelled to have her feature in one of my designs. The image used was taken from a magazine in the late 90's. I also had another image in mind (below) however decided against it.
The quote featured is from possibly my favourite book - Catcher In The Rye, written by J.D Salinger. I first read it in 2014 and the quote really stuck with me. The full quote reads:
"I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can.”
I had intended on using that quote on a T Shirt for SS17 that never materialised for one reason and another, but kept it, knowing I wanted to using again. That t shirt featured a front and back graphic, with a scene from "Get Carter (1971)" as the front graphic. The Scene is is Britt Ekland on the phone to Michael Caine in her underwear. I first was introduced to the film by my Father, who regarded it Caine's best work.
